Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow, gentle, nurturing practice that evolved out of China. Connected to Daoism, Yin practice focuses on the movement of energy (Chi) through the meridians.
Yin targets the connective tissues such as joints, ligaments and fascia rather than our larger main muscles by holding seated, laying or kneeling poses for a period of 3-7 minutes. Longer holds in yin allow for gravity to deepen the pose and expand our connective tissue.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is a very slow, therapeutic, soft yoga practice that uses the support of many props to hold a pose for anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes.
This style of yoga is not focused on active holds or active stretching, instead restorative yoga is focused on supporting the body with the use of props to bring one back into a place of harmony, healing both body, mind & soul.
Restorative yoga down regulates the sympathetic nervous system by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest sate) helping a person come back to a place of harmony from a state of flight or fight.
